The BIBA diary 2022

Jun 22

Representatives from Consilium, iFarm, iSure Ireland, iSure UK, and Mulberry Risk all made the journey to Manchester for the conference, joining hundreds of other delegates from across the UK insurance scene on 11-12 May.

The huge turnout was testament to the importance the whole industry still places on maintaining personal relationships with trading partners.

Leaders of each of our businesses had packed out daytime schedules, meeting in pre-planned meetings with brokers, some of whom they hadn’t seen in two years.

And even when they weren’t in meetings, our presence on the Lloyd’s stand meant plenty of extra opportunity to engage in ad hoc discussions with a mixture of old friends and new prospects learning about our broking and underwriting businesses for the first time.

The networking continued into the evening, with more informal Aventum-hosted evening drinks events on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

Both were great successes and heavily attended by our trading partners and other industry figures. Tuesday’s event was a glamorous event at the Manchester Ivy, while Wednesday’s took in stunning views across all of Manchester at Cloud 23 in the famous Hilton hotel.

The events were an opportunity for the wider team members of each of our businesses to join up with their colleagues and engage in wide ranging conversations, from insurance, to what’s going on in their personal lives.

Keeping the atmosphere light, but classy, attendees enjoyed entertainment at the events, in the form of a professional saxophone player, and a magician.

For Consilium’s Managing Director of UK Wholesale, Matt Pini, he said the three days had been important for meeting their agents, and taking opportunities for new business, and getting them over the line.

“It’s vital meeting our agents, and getting all the team to meet them as well,” he said. “There seems to be a lot of disgruntlement with our competitors, and having BIBA, and having the opportunity to talk one-to-one with these people, it’s been really positive for us.”

Matt Pini, Managing Director of UK Wholesale

Consilium is a wholesale broker that matches specialist risks from retail brokers across the UK with specialist underwriters who can only be accessed through the Lloyd’s and London market.

Thanks to our strong relationships with many leading underwriters in London, we offer a vital service to UK retail brokers, which explains why Matt spoke with representatives from over 50 agencies across the three days, including managing directors, account executives and claims handlers.

“Insurance is a people industry. It stems back to why it’s important to go and broke into Lloyd’s. It’s because it’s more personal, you form a more personal relationship,” he added.
