At Consilium, we believe in nurturing talent at every stage of a career. This National Apprenticeship Week, we want to take the chance to introduce you to Luke, one of our apprentices, to share his journey so far. From what drew him to an apprenticeship to his future ambitions, here is what he had to say.
What drew you to an apprenticeship rather than another route into the industry?
The ability to learn and gain qualifications while getting paid at the same time. It gives me hands-on experience and a proper understanding of the industry which I might not have got from studying alone.
What’s surprised you most about the apprenticeship?
I wouldn’t say it’s much of a surprise, but it’s so easy to ask questions and get support from the company. It makes the apprenticeship experience really enjoyable because people are approachable.
Why did you choose Consilium for your apprenticeship?
When leaving my interview, I knew it was the right fit for me. The environment and the personalities of those who first welcomed me made a real impression.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Consilium?
The friendly faces in the office and the open culture - being able to ask questions is important to me and feeling supported when you need help with something.
What’s a misconception people might have about being an apprentice?
People may think apprentices aren’t as important as other team members, but nobody at Consilium has ever treated me that way.
How do you see your role evolving as you gain more experience?
I see myself moving into a more client-facing role, becoming more efficient and knowledgeable at handling claims.
Describe your apprenticeship in three words.
Development. Exciting. Educating.
Away from work, what hobby or skill would you like to learn?
I’d love to get really good at padel tennis - it looks like a lot of fun.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Ask questions and get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
What might people be surprised to learn about you?
I lived in Canada for a year when I was younger.
Luke’s journey is a great example of how apprenticeships offer real career opportunities and hands-on experience. If you are considering an apprenticeship or want to learn more about opportunities within Consilium, get in touch with Lauren Brincat, linked below.
